More Enchantment In The Illuminated Gardens At Brodsworth Hall

Visitors to Brodsworth Hall & Gardens, near Doncaster, this October will have the chance to see the Victorian splendour in a whole new light, as English Heritage opens the site after dark for a son-et-lumiere spectacular, the Enchanted Gardens.

From Friday 19 October to Sunday 28 October, the grounds of Brodsworth Hall will reopen after dark, with fantastic lighting effects highlighting the exterior of the hall itself, as well as the restored Victorian gardens in an evening extravaganza that promises excitement around every corner.

“The idea behind Brodsworth’s gardens was that the Victorian visitors could walk around, and have something new revealed around every corner during their daytime strolls,” explains English Heritage’s regional events manager, Jon Hogan. “We’ve taken this one step further, and through the clever use of static and moving light, illuminate the key features to take visitors on a journey of discovery around the grounds – making a normally beautiful garden seem positively enchanting!”

The Enchanted Garden was first trialled for 2006, but in 2007, the trail is to be further extended, with the addition of the Whispering Woods, a section at the end of the walk where visitors will feel as though they are being watched by fairy folk, just catching brief snippets of sounds as they dart around the dark trees.

“This event really has to be seen to be believed, and from the reaction of visitors last year, is something that they will definitely return to,” adds Jon. “In fact, last year a primary school teacher from North Yorkshire was so impressed that she returned two days later with two coaches full of children and parents – almost the whole of the school!”

Although the Hall itself will be closed, the Tearoom will be serving hot refreshments, and the gift shop will be open.

The event runs each evening from 19-28 October from 6.30pm to 9.00pm. Tickets can be booked in advance by calling 0870 333 1183 or 01302 722598, and are priced at £5.00 for adults, £4.00 for concessions and £3.00 for children, English Heritage members receive discounted entry of £4.00 for adults, 3.00 for concessions and £2.00 for children.

Tickets on the door are priced at £5.50/£4.50/£3.50 or £4.50/£3.50/£2.50 for English Heritage members.
