Double deckers for B&Q

17/06/2009

B&Q is seeking to reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by 4600kgs per day with the introduction of a 60-strong fleet of double decker distribution lorries.

The vehicles will be in addition to the company's current 800 conventional trucks. The retailer calculates the move will reduce the distance travelled by its lorries

by 4,800 miles each day. An additional 120 double deckers will join the fleet later in the year.

"We're getting traffic off the road with these double-decker lorries because they can carry as much as 50 per cent more than those in our traditional fleet," says B&Q director of logistics Rick Jones.

The move will save money on fuel and maintenance as well as operational costs.
